The following information was posted recently on a Facebook group entitled “Whitefish Town Square” which is an open forum comprised of facts, ideas, and information where the citizens of Whitefish want a fair say concerning matters in their town.

The crux of the matter is this-the author claims that when it comes to issues far away the mayor and “City Hall” is vocal but when local Whitefish residents bring up issues, that the mayor and the rest of “City Hall” would rather not address they remain silent.
(See below) the following was written by a local resident who claims, “But when it comes to local accountability — illegal fees, overreach, court rulings, and policies that directly affect Whitefish residents — the lights seem to dim.
Two Doors. Two Priorities.

WHITEFISH MT MAYOR ISSUES PROCLAMATION AGAINST ICE IN MINNEAPOLIS!! ![]()
(Full text of proclamation can be found in the first comment)

“City Hall has time for proclamations about events happening hundreds of miles away. But when it comes to local accountability — illegal fees, overreach, court rulings, and policies that directly affect Whitefish residents — the lights seem to dim.
This isn’t about national politics.
It’s about priorities.
When citizens are forced to go to court to correct unlawful fees…
When outside organizations have to step in to enforce state law…
When residents ask basic questions about finances and get silence instead of answers…
That’s not leadership. That’s avoidance.
Local government exists for one reason: to serve the people who live here. Whitefish doesn’t need symbolic gestures.
It needs transparency.
It needs compliance with state law.
It needs honest permit fees and fair treatment for every resident.
And above all, it needs accountability — here at home.
The question isn’t whether City Hall can speak on national issues.
The question is: Will it show the same energy when it comes to protecting the rights and wallets of its own citizens?”
