PAID POLITICAL COMMENTARY – Do not be deceived on CI-128

Dear Editor,

I am writing on behalf of my husband and myself. CI 128, using very clever and deceptive language, allows for abortion at any point during pregnancy up to the ninth month for any reason, mainly under the guise of “mental health” and saving the life of the mother.

I started my nursing career in a regional high risk referral hospital on the high risk labor and delivery/antepartum unit and worked there for many years. I was the first nurse on that unit to care for a pregnant cardiac patient who had multiple cardiac medications going while she was in labor. I can say, with authority, that in the entire time I worked there, there was not one scenario where an abortion was necessary to save the life of the mother. A Cesarean section could be performed in minutes and while we worked very hard to save both lives, the mother was always the priority. If the baby did not survive, this was certainly not considered an abortion. It was considered an emergency situation where the patient sadly did not survive.

Do not be deceived! Vote NO on CI 128!

Julie, RN, BSN, ACN, and Steve Martin
