There is a lot of information going around about Ryan Hunter and his Portland roots and many folks are just simply ignorant and naive concerning the facts on this topic. It’s time for exposing what Hunter intends to accomplish with the new council if he were voted in as Mayor (where his current progressive ideas and plans usually get voted down by the current council) and how Hunter’s ideology is side by side with the city of Portland’s tactics. To be clear Hunter’s ‘New Portland’ would be scarily in line with what Portland implements and approves of right now.
Hunter (who earned a degree in Urban Planning) knows exactly how to implement Portland planning into the City of Kalispell.
Below are actual facts (not opinions) as Ryan Hunter mentions such things in city council meetings.
Read about Portland, Oregon and Ryan Hunter’s (New Kalispell/Portland)
- Ryan Hunter wants new sidewalks, new bike paths, and more walkable areas. Portland has these areas now. The issue however with Kalispell is there are months on end where people just do not walk because we experience such difficult weather for long periods of time. Residents of Kalispell also have shared that with the uptick in homeless people they do not feel comfortable having their children walk too much or in all areas. Also is the fact that the citizens will be TAXED for all these things.
 - Ryan Hunter (given the chance) would have had Buffalo Hill Golf Course become a “breezeway” extending Lawrence Park and joining it with our over 100-year-old Golf Course. The fact that he repeated this so many times on Council tells us he’s really serious about public spaces for all. Much of Portland is comprised of public spaces for all, and it’s been disastrous as the homeless will take over any area that is set up as a public space or entity. Kalispell already has a huge drug and homeless problem in Lawrence (and Woodland Park) and to do this would increase it all the more. The very fact that he even thinks this way is extremely concerning.
 - Ryan Hunter is in favor of and wants to approve a “Housing Authority” which in essence is Portland to a T. This would comprise of taking public property and building on it then housing the poor and homeless and charging the citizens via taxing them (government subsided housing). This is exactly what Portland has done.
 - Ryan Hunter has publicly stated in council meetings that he wants “porta potties” and “water fountains” and “wash stations” erected throughout the city (which would serve the homeless and make it easier and more inviting for more to come to our city). This is exactly what Portland has done to its own demise.
 - Ryan Hunter often at Kalispell City Council meetings speaks of 15 Minute Cities (20 Minute Neighborhoods in Portland vernacular) which is exactly what Portland has implemented. The idea is to drive less (less carbon emissions) walk more (meaning better health) and more bike riding. While some of these concepts may seem good there are many drawbacks. Kalispell has many months of horrific weather. Bike riding works for a while and walking can be a positive thing but certainly isn’t feasible for everyone. Not all people want to ride a bus (and not use their car) to travel from say the library to Evergreen.
 - The concept is that everything you need and do would be based all within one city essentially and within a 15-minute time frame for everything you need. However, this is in essence taking away your choices and ultimately your freedom because the next step (presumably) would be to try to implement far LESS driving and more electric cars which in many ways is just not feasible for Montana weather. The whole idea just yells “CONTROL” and Hunter should know by now that most Montanans are fiercely independent and don’t want to be told what to do.
 - Ryan Hunter’s ideas concerning homelessness are just downright appalling. Mentioned above is his idea of strewing “porta-potties” and “water fountains” everywhere which would only increase homelessness. He wants to remove/replace the ordinances that were formally put in place by the city council such as not allowing sleeping in one’s car on city streets and yes this is exactly the type of thing that Hunter would encourage and of course how Portland functions.

It is absolutely naive to think that Ryan Hunter’s ideas and plans for Kalispell aren’t directly linked to Portland.

It makes no difference that Hunter hasn’t lived in Portland for about two decades because his thought patterns reveal that he eats, thinks, and breathes Portland ideology. All one has to do is go to enough city council meetings to see and hear how Hunter thinks and what he says and it’s precisely what Portland has done.
It is abundantly clear they are one and the same.
Except in one area.

And although Hunter IS bringing his “policies” to Montana they are NOT (contrary to the lying flier Kisa Davison’s overseers-see above-promoted) his “war-torn” policies/ANTIFA; that’s just plain silly and NOT true. Neither is it true that Sid Daoud “lied” to President Trump. That lie has been debunked via KGEZ’s a.m. show where Daoud and station owner John Hendricks expel (click here to listen) and expose that myth.
However here is the reality concerning ANTIFA when their war-like madness hits a city. As horrific as it is it doesn’t last forever. Eventually buildings and businesses are rebuilt, new houses are erected, and business starts up once again in most places. We are not however downplaying the immensely dangerous destruction of war-torn neighborhoods and human lives that this viscous and savage group commits.
However, if Hunter’s policies are voted in, they could last for decades and decades and that is a different kind of danger but nonetheless frightening and catastrophic.
All sidewalks and public spaces are not unicorns and daisies-they are an agenda….
Vote NO to Ryan Hunter’s ‘Portlandization’ of Kalispell!
