Flint Receives Homestead (Tax) Exemption for Billings Home but Rents in Flathead

Date:

It’s a fact that in Montana a U.S. Congressional candidate does not have to live in the district they intend to run in.

However, candidates do have to reside in their homes for 7 months in 2025 if a candidate claimed a Homestead Exemption rebate in 2025 for the 2024 tax year, in which they were then automatically enrolled in the “Homestead Exemption.” How then does this pertain to Aaron Flint (candidate for Western Montana U.S. Congressional District No.1)?

It appears Flint rented a home in Kalispell on or before June 22, 2025, and if that’s the case then he could not have been in Billings for 7 months in 2025. Flint therefore should have disenrolled for the Homestead Exemption.

Flint is also wanting folks who live in the Western District to know he lives in Flathead County. He’s made it very clear that this is where he resides. However, to reiterate, Flint got the tax exemption on his home in Billings.

Official letters were sent to those who qualified for the Homestead Exemption on 10/2/2025 to let residents know that they were automatically enrolled. Therefore, Flint would have received this letter after he rented a home in Kalispell.

The rental ad of the home which Flint and his family now inhabit expressed the house was for one year. The real question is could this be tax fraud due to his taking of the exemption? Additionally, he doesn’t pay taxes in Flathead County; he owns no property or home(s) here. Moreover, should he lose the Congressional race would he just move back to Billings? And should Flint win the position as Congressman will he move back to his home in Billings and “represent” us from afar?

Flint’s wife has stated that they’re “from the Flathead” but if that’s true then why take the exemption from the home they own in Billings?

Furthermore, why did Flint not just run against Troy Downing (who reapplied to run for the Eastern district) because Flint already lives in District no.2. That’s where his house is.

Many who know Flint is now in the Flathead running for Western Congressional District no.1 are in an uproar concerning his move to the Flathead. And the rest of the people you ask have no clue who he is. Again, why not run in a place where you work and are already known as in Congressional district no.2.

Obviously, the Flint’s moved here months before Aaron Flint filed in March 2026, for Western Congressional seat no. 1 to appear as though they’ve lived here for a long time and are part of the community.

To be sure, this reminds us of similar actions taken by Letitia James.
