Outstanding Candidate Cheryl Hohman Runs for Flathead County Clerk and Recorder

Date:

Cheryl Hohman has dedicated several years at the Flathead County Courthouse. Known as a trusted and stable employee, she exhibits characteristics such as transparency, humility, integrity, and trustworthiness.

We wanted to reach out to Cheryl and find out a bit about her and why she felt lead to run for the position of Clerk and Recorder for Flathead County. Cheryl comprises and exudes a spirit of honesty and integrity, and we were delighted to sit down and learn more about her.

“First of all, can you tell us a little bit about your family and where you live, your hobbies etc.”

“I’m married to my best friend, and we have an amazing son. Through the years we’ve enjoyed all the pleasures of our beautiful Flathead Valley in one way or another…through camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, golfing, and boating. We really enjoy our home…working in our yard and hanging out with our family and friends.

I personally love my garden, flowers, and entertaining when I can. A walk through the garden always calms me and rounds out my day.”

“You shared earlier you have worked for the county for a good amount of time-can you give us more specifics?”

“I started working in the Plat Room in 1995. Prior to that I worked for a local title company where recording documents at the courthouse was part of my job. The women who worked in the Plat Room encouraged me to apply for a position there. It just felt like family and those relationships and time in that department years were really special to me.”

“So, what exact position/department are you working/serving at now in the courthouse?”

“I currently work in the GIS department (Geographic Information Systems). My title is ‘Cadastral Specialist’, which in simple terms means I maintain the parcel database for all of Flathead County. This includes managing layers within that such as Fire Districts, School Districts, Water and Sewer Districts and more. It’s detailed, precise work that requires accuracy and a strong understanding of how everything connects.

“What exactly made you want to run for the position of Clerk and Recorder?”

Over the years I’ve made a commitment to public service. As a public servant, I believe that it’s important to be accountable to the public taxpayer. Integrity and transparency matters, and it’s fundamental to the taxpayers of our county.

I want to know that in the years to come my work mattered and that I’ve done my part. I’ve seen through past Clerk and Recorder’s work such as Sue Haverfield’s amazing foresight of bringing GIS to Flathead County! And Paula Robinson’s incredible work ethic and creating the Records Preservation Department…..they were both great role models and made our County Offices better before they moved on. I’m committed to Flathead County and building a better future!”

“How do you feel it should be best handled meaning the massive and extensive growth that we’ve experienced here in the past several years in Flathead County?”

“That is such an important question. We’ve experienced such a large amount of growth and in such a short time. We need to reevaluate our processes, streamline our workflows, and modernize our records so every department can work more efficiently and productively.

It’s multi-tasking at its finest….getting daily work done while also making the necessary upgrades that will be crucial to our records for the future and making sure security measures are in place. Attention to detail is a huge part of the job, and the primary role of the County Clerk and Recorder is to lead well by overseeing managers who in turn exhibit transparency, accuracy, and attention to detail.

Having worked under three different clerk and recorders I understand the importance of revising our system. Accuracy, experience, knowledge, and a hands-on approach, are the traits a Clerk and Recorder should have. As we grow as a county it is important to choose a public servant/leader who has earned the trust of the community.”

“Cheryl can you please share with us a few of your endorsements? We know those are important for those running for office to share with the public and an excellent way to promote a candidate.”

“I am honored to do that and so grateful that so many people stepped up to write letters of recommendation to help promote my campaign; it’s such an honor and extremely humbling.”
