Will Montana Fruit Survive the Obscure Weather Patterns in 2024?

Date:

It’s a mystery at this point for sure. But the year before last the huckleberry season was minimal at best, the pears were nearly non-existent and the apples were sparce.

In Northwest Montana, we are experiencing 60+ degrees in March and that is rare. We will have experienced a week of warm weather and then the temperatures will drop back to freezing. If the buds have come out on the fruit trees this past week (and they most likely have in some places) followed by freezing temperatures that will spell disaster.

Everyone wants spring to arrive albeit if it doesn’t happen gradually with a slow steady increase in temperatures it will ruin much of the fruit. Fruit trees and bushes weren’t designed to endure such severe temperature fluxuations.
